So I was going to buy this chopper, until I read these reviews about the lid breaking so quickly and easily. 1. No one should have to replace a lid after a few months or even a few years of use unless it broke due to neglect or an accident,. 2. Consumers expect more from KitchenAid, it's a brand we've trusted for decades, so to see so many folks having complaints abt a product is truly disappointing. 3. I'm guessing that lots of folks here are out of luck, as their warranties have expired, so I wld really love to know how the company has resolved this problem for the folks below.
KitchenAid, please provide a solution, and is your engineering team fixing this flaw?

Lid = Major design flaw
RobinS
11/10/2019
I bought the 3.5 cup food chopper a couple of years ago, and one of the lid screws broke after a couple of weeks. It didn't prevent me from using the processor, so I didn't take the product back nor did I contact Kitchenaid. The remaining screw finally bit the dust several months ago, and I can no longer use the processor. Although the processor chops well - I can't give it a good performance or value rating if the easily breaks and renders the appliance unusable, and I'm left to purchase a replacement lid that presumably has the same design flaws. It looks like I'm not alone in my experience with the flawed lid design. I like Kitchenaid as a brand, just super disappointed in the quality of this product.

This lid has a design flaw that results in the interior screws coming out and the lid falling apart into 2 pieces. I am doubly disappointed that after contacting Kitchenaid about a replacement I received no response after a full week.

I have had this for a few years. I have babied the lid, hand washed it and today it finally broke where the black part screws into the plastic. I would love a replacement lid but not sure when or if it will be available. If I have to buy new will go with a product with better quality lid.

Come on Kitchen Aid, this is the second lid that has broken on me. And now I see it's out of stock.....probably because it has broken for everyone else too. A really terrible design on this lid. Th chopper works great though, but not worth the hassle of replacing the lid on a yearly basis.

I thought I was the only person to have this problem but coming to Kitchenaid's homepage and seeing replacement lids are out of stock and all the terrible reviews made me realize Im clearly not the first one to have this problem. The lid is utter cheap junk, broke within a few months of use. I haven't been able to find a replacement on amazon or Kitchenaids website. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!

Lid problem once again
karina95
3/27/2019
I have had this product for not that long and worked perfectly fine always. I usually care for it by drying it by hand and storing it right away after wash. Nevertheless, this one time I set it on the drying rack and the lid broke with just the pressure of a pan over it. At first I wasn't sure it was broken because I couldn't believe a known brand product would be so flimsy, but after trying to figure out how to re-attach I realize it was broken. Seriously, I thought. After my disbelief in how I broke the lid, I came to seek solutions by buying another one and turns out they are out of stock. I get it, the product has since changed, but with a brand like kitchen aid you buy appliances thinking they will last some years given the renown name of the brand, but this time I have to say I am fairly disappointed. I don't seem to find any solution and not sure I would go with this brand for food processors in the future (as I now need to replace mine) if this is the way it is going to be.

Another machine - same story!
Steve from Melbourne
1/31/2019
A fantastic machine but the lid wins no engineering awards. Unless of course there are awards for designing a machine with a limited lifespan. One tiny black piece of plastic has broken off inside one of the springs and rendered the machine useless. And I can see from this website that there are no replacement parts. Just landfill now.

I've had this food processor for about 7 years and have always liked it. Today though, the lid fell out of the cabinet and broke. Understandably since it hit a granite countertop. That's not my complaint. My complaint is that this lid that is shown retails for $7.99 which I think is a fair price considering the whole processor cost me under $50. This one is "out of stock", however, when I searched on this website for this particular lid, I found it on another page and it's $31 AND in stock!! How can this be? I'm hoping the $31 lid is vastly improved over the original one for it to be at least half of the cost of an entire processor!!

The Lid Ruins Everything
CHRISTOPHER A
1/4/2019
So, the snazzy fire engine red makes this little Tazmanian Devil the perfect go-to item in my kitchen and it is used frequently enough to get a prized showcase display on my kitchen baking rack. I used it for everything! Onions, changing the texture of meats, blending! The horrible part is the lid! I went to use it one day and it fell apart in my hands. Not willing to part with my kitchen staple, I got online and ordered a new one paying the ridiculous shipping and handling fee and the high price for the flimsy piece of plastic. I used this item for about 6 more months and the second lid also fell apart. My brother tried to glue it back together, but knowing this was only a temporary fix, I got online to ensure another lid would be en route by ordering it only to find it is OUT OF STOCK! Then I tabbed down to read the reviews to determine that everyone says the same thing about this chopper. Great Chopper, Lid issues emminent! DO NOT BUY!!!!

I've had this chopper for about a year and I really liked it, however, the lid design is not robust and apparently there are no replacement parts available and it doesn't look like there will be in the near future. My only option is to buy a new chopper....it will not be a KitchenAid. I hate the thought that I will have to throw away a perfectly good chopper because I can't get a replacement lid. No wonder garbage dumps are overflowing in this country!

Poorly designed lid
TwirlyGirly
12/6/2018
Bought this in December 2014 and have used it daily ever since. A couple of years ago I was cleaning the bowl/blade/lid in the sink (I never, ever wash it in the dishwasher) and the lid slipped out of my hands and dropped into the sink. It fell apart and one of the springs went down the drain. I ordered a new lid. This morning I was reassembling the bowl/blade/lid and accidentally dropped the lid on the floor. It fell apart. I thought I would be okay this time because I have all the parts, but no. Even though I've reassembled it correctly, it won't stay together! So now I'm stuck with an appliance that while it *looks* brand new (and has performed perfectly for years, save the poorly designed lid), it can't be used - nor can I purchase a replacement part at a reasonable price here or elsewhere. Compare this to the other KA appliances I own (mixer/Precise Heat Mixing Bowl/blender) and the quality of this is very poor.

Well, you can probably guess why I'm here . . . Same problem as the other reviewers. The chopper itself works beautifully--I love it! But now I can't use it because the lid fell to pieces. I can kind of balance them in a way that will make it usable, but using two-stage epoxy didn't do a thing to put it together again. Will be contacting the company for a replacement.

Design seems adequate, quality and manufacturing execution extremely poor and disappointing.

This is my second 3.5 cup chopper. The previous generation no longer worked and I bought a KFC3511. It worked very well until the other day when the lid came apart. It hasn't been dropped. It has been hand washed. I agree with other users that the lid is a design flaw. I have ordered a new lid, and hope it lasts for awhile. The chopper performs well, so I keep trying.

I loved my mini food chopper! I use it all the time. That is until the lid broke tonight. As many have mentioned the black piece of plastic popped off, breaking apart the 2 springs and 3 plastic "screws." I hate to throw this out and add more plastic to the landfill but there is no way to fix the lid as far as I can tell.

Broken lid
Waigoren
5/29/2018
Great chopper but very poor lid design.
This lid is made up of 5 plastic components, 3 screws and two springs. The posts that the screws are attached to, all broke off leaving this product useless.
I managed to fix it by hot gluing what I call the hinge saddle directly to the main clear lid piece. It is located under the black button pieces. Be sure to get the black rocker piece oriented upright like a teeter totter. The black 'puree' and 'chop' pieces will then snap back into place and its ready to go.
Such a poor design for what is really a great chopper.
I hope that this helps you fix it and not toss it into the bin.
KitchenAid, if this has not already been addressed, perhaps the 66 other people that also had issues with this will encourage you to do so!

I'm glad to see if not there only one who has issues with the quality of this lid. I bought a KitchenAid brand chopper, which was more than twice the price of the value brand in the store, expecting it to last longer and be better quality. It wasn't.
I recently purchased the newer model of this chopper and KA has improved the design of the lid. Hopefully it lasts longer than this previous version.

The machine works great!!! The problem is the lid water gets in and you can't get it out along with food. No way to take apart to clean it. The bowl also gets water and food inside where the lid buttons connect. At least it has a screw and can take it apart to clean. I can't use something that gets moldy and no way to clean. I have even socked the lid in bleach water. But can't get it clean.

This has been my favorite kitchen appliance until the lid broke. Seems to be a trend with this product. Now it's rendered useless as there are no replacement lids available. I used to purchase cheaper mini choppers which never lasted long, so I upgraded to this based on the you-get-what-you-paid-for premise. Yet now again I find myself in the same predicament-a broken chopper needing to be replaced-except this time I'm out more money because I paid for a trusted brand that didn't match up to the reputation.
